How? Is there any parts that have to be covered? I want to clean all the parts under the hood of my car, in a coin operated car wash, but I'm afraid it won't run anymore after I'm done.Is it save to wash all ';the parts under the hood'; of your car by your self?
Depends on the age of the vehicle and the type of engine. Generally, most vehicles can be power washed under the hood, except those that use coil-on-plug ignition. To be 100% sure, always consult with the service department of the manufacturer. Is it save to wash all ';the parts under the hood'; of your car by your self?
yes it is safe, when i do this, i leave the car running and make sure to avoid diectly spraying on electrical connections and the distributor cap.this is also a good way to clean your rafdiator and a/c cooler.
I usually use foaming engine cleaner and a hot pressure washer, If the car has a distributor, water may enter under cover and cause vehicle to run bad for a few minuites, just when you pressure wash don't spray electronic components very close to pressure washer nozell, may damage keep about a foot away from engine while spraying
sure,... give your engine electronics a good dose of water...there are plenty of people like me who would love to get this repair because it's easy (replace parts) and it can mean alot of labor. why do you think they total flood damage cars??? oh and don't forget to spray inside the fuel tank...many people don't do that.
yea I pull all the wires til there bare and use cold water and dawn soap. then plug everything back in and hope it starts
i own a repair shop, and there are things that if you get them wet it wont start back, you need to cover the distributor cap on it for sure and mostly every thing else should be ok ,but don't clean real heavy around the alternator it doesn't need to get that wet it can short it out, other than that, the rest of it can be cleaned pretty good, just use good judgment when your doing it ,and you,ll be ok with it,,good luck i hope this help,s
I do.
Some people cover the coil packs or distributor.
Some also put a plastic bag over the TB or carburetor.
Only problem I've had is drying out the alternator bearings.
Of course it depends on the year of the car....Most of the electronics on cars today are sealed off against any moisture...just don't direct the spray right on the electronics modules.
I usually use an engine cleaner like gunk, then lightly rinse it of around the electronics and use the full force of the washer on the metal engine parts.
